Willie Nelson has released scores of albums, so how could there still be new ways to stretch his vocal abilities and well-tested talent? Well, he has found a way with his new CD, “Moment of Forever.” Maybe he did it by employing new record producers - in this case Buddy Cannon and singer/songwriter and Number 1 country entertainer, Kenny Chesney. The duo have been successful in producing Chesney’s multiplatium albums, but could they bring that same handiwork to the aging Nelson’s CD? Apparently so. The new CD proves that
this crew, with Nelson, are experts in finding new songs that work with
Nelson’s tried and true voice. From soft sounding ballads with limited
instruments, like the title song, “Moment of Forever,” to light hearted
songs like “You Don’t Think I’m Funny Anymore,” the CD is a great mix.
The CD also brings on a host of well-known songwriters, with Nelson
writing several and other songs by Kris Kristofferson, Big Kenny (Big
and Rich), Randy Newman and Bob Dylan. |

One particularly good song was written by producer Cannon, “When I Was Young and Grandma Wasn’t Old.” It provides an excellent vehicle for Nelson: “When I was young and
Grandma wasn’t old Not to be outdone, Chesney co-wrote the song “I’m Alive,” blended in with background vocals on “Over You Again” and one of the CD’s best is the Nelson and Chesney duet, “Worry B Gone,” which sips and puffs away worries: “Well, I’ve got trouble
with the air The CD, like the many others before it, shows that Willie Nelson just keeps rolling along – and continues to proves that some things just get better with age. |
