Whiskey Falls

What do you get when you have four excellent singers, who are also good musicians and successful songwriters? You have a great new country band, Whiskey Falls.  The group released their self-titled, debut album in September – and it’s incredibly good for such a new group.

There once were two guys that played music together when they were young, Seven Williams and Wally Brandt, but they put their own music on hold.  Joined by Brandt’s twin brother, Bill, the threesome started a prosperous film and television music production company in California, called We 3 Kings.

Eventually though they arrived in Nashville and began writing songs for others. Finally deciding that it would be more fun to write and record for themselves, they began looking for someone to sing harmonies and complete the band.

They settled on Buck Johnson and his pal, Damon Johnson (they aren’t related).  They were both excellent musicians, good songwriters – and best of all they had great voices.  Whiskey Falls was ready.

The CD 13 well-written songs including ballads and drinking songs, even a few with a hip-hop country sound – all have great harmonies. Take the first single ”Last Train Running:”

“At the end of my life, when I take that journey all alone
And I’m on my own and there’s no one to save me
Oh, and when I look back on all of the things I done
I wasn’t always strong
Lord will you take me for I’ve been as down as a man can go
I want to be ready when I hear that whistle blow
And I’m on the last train running and the devil’s coming…”

The ballad “I Can’t Stop Loving You” includes harmonies that will remind you of similar groups like Little Big Town –but better. The final song on the CD is particularly good for the New England country fans right now – “Load Up the Bases (The Baseball Song)” is a rocking, stomping tribute to America’s past time and is bound to have listeners cheering for this talented new group.
