On June 5, Dualtone Records will release “Anchored in Love: A Tribute to June Carter Cash.” The CD, produced by son John Carter Cash, brings together a group of well-known country and rock singers and many of the songs associated with or written by June Carter Cash. From the first
track, “If I Were a Carpenter,” featuring Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson,
the CD is filled with first rate performances. Country great Kris
Kristofferson teams with Patty Loveless in “Far Side Banks of Jordan”
and Ronnie Dunn (of Brooks and Dunn) joins Carlene Carter on “Jackson.”
There are also solo numbers by Brad Paisley (“Keep on the Sunny Side”)
and Loretta Lynn’s “Wildflowers.” |

The CD is not limited to country performers. Elvis Costello, a friend of the CD’s producer and the Cashes, sings “Ring of Fire” in which the inclusion of the autoharp keeps the focus on June Carter’s version of the song. The best cut is a heartfelt “Song to John.” The song was written by June Carter Cash and is beautifully rendered here by Emmylou Harris. The CD is scheduled to be released at the same time as a book by the same name and written by John Carter. Carter chronicles his mother’s early musical career with the Carter family, her marriage to Johnny Cash and the highs and lows of this remarkable family. |
