Kenny Chesney admits to starting his pre-concert
routine with Red Bull – he must have had a 6-pack on Friday night for the first
concert in the 2009 Sun City Carnival Tour at the Mohegan Sun Arena in
Uncasville, CT. This was a high energy performance from the minute he hit the
stage to the finale.
In fact, the energy was raised by opening acts, Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert. But with this year’s entrance, Chesney swinging down in a chair from the arena rafters while singing “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”—set the bar high for the rest of the night.
Sticking with many of his biggest hits, Chesney’s set included "Summertime," "Big Star," "Me And You," "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems," and “When the Sun Goes Down.” In addition, he included the first hits from his latest album, "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" and "Down The Road."
Chesney seemed to be everywhere – whirling, turning, throwing kisses and just rarely standing still. The audience roared its approval. He has added a new horn section to the band, which improves the set and makes the songs sound even closer to the recorded versions. Only drawback is that Chesney rarely slows down for a good quiet ballad – something that is especially memorable on the CDs.
There is a reason why Chesney has been named the country entertainer of the year 8 times – he is one of the best and proves it again with this year’s tour.
