Owen Temple - Two Thousand Miles

Listening to Owen Temple’s new CD, “Two Thousand Miles,” is like attending a private concert in a small, intimate venue.  You feel like he’s singing just for you. You can clearly hear the guitar strumming and feel the emotions behind the words. The simplicity of the music paints vivid pictures of Texas country living.

The CD includes many quiet love songs, like “You Don’t Have to Be Lonely” and “I Just Can’t Quit Loving You.” The title song, “Two Thousand Miles” describes the promise of a cross-country move:

“With  a truck full of dreams
And a handful of doubts
But we put fear away,
After we pulled out
Cause there’s nothing we can’t do baby
No problem, no trials
Two lovers, two days
And two thousand miles.”

The light hearted “Can’t Drink Enough to Sing” talks about a guy with friends and family supporting his attempts at open mike night and Temple displays a sense of humor with “The Pluto Blues” as he tells us about fame’s fickleness through the story of a Different Strokes actor that moves from television star to mall security guard.

One of the best tracks is “Swear It Off Again” which paints the picture of a cowboy and the lure of the rodeo life:

“The lights in the arena and the crowds in the stand.
Fifteen hundred pounds of bull gripped tight in your hands
Announcer says your name and the crowd goes wild
I’ve had rodeo dreams since I was a child.”

Temple is not a country music newcomer – having released two previous CDs, but it looks like this one may bring him the recognition outside Texas that he richly deserves as a singer/songwriter.
